Well, how did I get here?

It all started with the Texaco Children's National Art competition. The next prize was much later, for graduating first in Ireland in design. Then I was headhunted to work at Microsoft global headquarters in Seattle. Now I have nineteen years experience leading the design of user experience, interactive, print, and motion graphic design.

Awards

I won the National Council for Educational Awards Design Prize awarded each year to the highest scoring Irish design graduate across all disciplines and colleges. I also won the Allied Irish Banks Design Medal on graduating first in Ireland in industrial design.

I am currently completing CPD certs in Usability Testing and UI Design Patterns and have completed certs in UX Management, Mobile UX Design and Interaction Design for Usability with the Interaction Design Foundation.

I have an honours degree in Industrial Design and Human Computer Interaction from University of Ulster and a higher diploma in Product Design from Carlow Institute of Technology.

2007 - present, Principal Product Designer at Learnex

Learnex is a corporate compliance consultancy that supports pharmaceutical companies in the implementation of their ethics and compliance training programmes globally. I lead a team of on and off-site designers in the research and design of user experiences that combined interactive and print training and promotional material to ensure buy-in globally.

Key skills and achievements included global project management, client relationship management and design excellence.


2006 - 2007, Creative Design Manager at Slater

Slater is a design agency who work closely with clients to help them bring intelligent design to client's customer experience. Leading a team of designers in the Dublin office required a hands-on approach. I was responsible for the day to day management of the studio, creative direction and motivation.

Key skills and achievements included studio management, customer experience design excellence and client relationship management.


2004 – 2006, Freelance Designer

On return from a year's travel, I won contracts to develop brands across digital and print media, successfully completed my first detailed UX/UI design project and worked part-time with Learnex.

2001 – 2003, Creative Director at EmergeSmart

EmergeSmart deliver premium blended online/face to face training to government and global corporations. I implemented a new vision for design within the company and with clients.

Key skills and achievements included brand ambassadorship team building/motivation and project management.


1999 – 2001, Head of Design at Advance Learning

I initially worked at Microsoft Headquarters in Seattle helping them set up the design system for Windows Interactive Training. On return to Galway, I hired, trained and managed twelve designers to produce this training and developed a strong, cohesive brand for the company in print, and digital media.
